VALLON 62
HOUSE

GENEVA, CH
2023

The Val 62 House is located in Chêne-Bougeries in Geneva, in a residential area, part of a complex of detached houses, which was built in 1981 on a 1380m2 plot . The proposal is to restore the existing house and replace the extension with a new one in another location of the plot in order to meet the requirements of a young family. The project aims at redefining the ‘ephemeral’ and flexible nature of by achieving comfortable and high quality indoor and outdoor living spaces. The new extension’s south facing placement adjacent to the small side of the house, extends the house in a horizontal axis and allows more natural air and sunlight to enter the whole building throughout the day. In addition, freeing up the space over the basement gives the ability for a new cour-anglaise to add lighter to the basement. Another crucial aim of the project was to increase excitement when entering the property. The main entrance will bring you in the house, showing off views directly down the pool area and landscape, and finally you will enter the extension as if you step into the garden.

The proposed extension leaves the house almost untouched and reveals its previously hidden façade. An “in between” space with an open kitchen is designed as a link, envisaged to touch the existing building lightly and connect the old to the new. The ground level holds the common areas and a guest room, while the upper floor encompasses the master bedroom and two more for the kids with access to the roof terrace. the basement contains one more guest room, the gym, food storage and a utility room.
